Why I Love Dystopias

Dystopias are interesting since they look at the future and ask how it could be worse for humanity. I first came across dystopian novels during my A-levels when I started reading The Handmaid’s Tale for my English class. It has also been made into a popular TV series. While The Handmaid’s Tale is probably the most recognisable, there are other dystopian novels, films, and TV series out there. Dystopian Novels I have read I have read a number of dystopian novels, both for fun and for my current course. If you want to discover more about my university course, you Read More

Creative Writing University Course: Year Two, Unit 1

My creative writing university course is going well, and I finished unit one of the second year in the summer of 2022. I want to share the process of how I completed it, as well as the pathways I chose for my second year. As I am one of the first students going through the second year of the course with the Open College of the Arts, I thought others would want to know what it is like. Why I Found Scriptwriting Difficult

While I was completing my first year at the Open College of the Arts, I had to choose two elective units; and one of these was scriptwriting. I enjoyed the other unit I completed, which was writing the first five chapters of a novel. Student Finance Struggles

Please note that I am studying a distance learning course, so what I explain in this blog post is about my struggles with finance for distance learning rather than for a standard university. Student finance can be a difficult process to go through as while I’m excited to start my university course with the open college of arts, I’ve faced some problems with the finance side of the course. When we first applied for the course, the people we talked to said that the finance won’t take long. Upon starting the funding in July, I didn’t know that it will Read More

Autism and Open Days

Autism and Open days can be worrying as that autistic person has to go out of their comfort zone to go to a city and find themselves among many people their age, excited by the prospect of finally growing independent and leaving home. On the other hand, I didn’t find the number of people stressful when I went to visit a university for their open day. To begin that day, we had to travel to the city where the university is located. Luckily, it is a city that I know well due to my frequent visits there as I was Read More
