Special Interests: Creatable World

Creatable World is a doll line now discontinued by Mattel. These dolls are gender-neutral, making them easily customisable with different hair, clothes and accessories. While you cannot easily swap the wigs as the dolls have different hair colours and textures, it is easy to mix and match the clothes and accessories across the line.

Mattel created dolls with different skin tones and hair colours, and textures. They made different types of packs, fashion packs that contain a mixture of clothes, shoes and hats. Many of these are clothes or accessories available with the deluxe packs, which also include a doll and a wig.

Most of the time, the clothes are different colours from those in the deluxe packs, but sometimes they use the same colours. The last type they sold was the doll themselves. They are cheaper than the deluxe packs as they don’t come with extra clothes or accessories, but it does make it easier to start a collection.

I started collecting Creatable World soon after coming back from holiday this year. I went into a toy shop and discovered that they sold Creatable World dolls. Before I found Creatable World, I used Ever After High dolls to create my characters. Ever After High are not as easily customisable as Creatable World. The characters are already created, the clothing is specific, and it is hard to make clothes for the females. However, as Creatable World has gender-neutral dolls, it is easier to make clothes. I recently made a top for one of my dolls, and it was much easier than creating something for an Ever After High doll.

My Creatable World Collection

I started with three deluxe packs since they were on sale on The Works website. They were clearing them out, and the dolls there were cheaper than I found anywhere else. Before I received them, I watched several reviews on YouTube. When I received them, I took lots of photographs of each of the dolls and the clothes and accessories they come with.

The three I started with were DC-826 (wavy brown hair), DC-414 (wavy blonde) and DC-220 (curly brown hair with blonde highlights). Each pack comes with a doll, a matching wig, a jacket, two tops, two pairs of trousers, one skirt, three pairs of shoes, one pair of glasses, one hat, and one bag.

This doll is the one that comes with a wavy blonde wig. The clothes it comes with are a white vest and shorts set, which the doll is already wearing. They also have a camo jacket, grey jogging bottoms, a multi-coloured skirt, a black and white striped jumper with red sleeves, a yellow shirt, and denim shorts. The accessories they come with are grey sunglasses, brown boots, green flats, black heels, and a black hat. They also have a brown backpack that closes with Velcro. All the clothes and accessories have a lot of detail, something you clearly notice with this line.

This was one of the dolls I wanted to get; as in one of my fanfictions, one of my characters looks a lot like this doll. I thought having a doll that looked like my character would help me visualise them more. It was also for this doll that I created the top for. Sadly, I cannot find the website anymore as I didn’t bookmark it. However, if I find it, I will post a link to it if I create another Creatable World blog post.

Initially, I ordered a different doll as I wanted it to be another character in my fanfiction. However, I am still happy with this doll as I probably would’ve ordered it at another point. This doll comes with a black vest and shorts set, which is different to the DC-414 pack. The other set I have, DC-220, also comes with a black vest and matching shorts. This set also comes with a denim jacket with silver sleeves, a grey shark t-shirt, jeans, a paint-splattered shirt, a red and white skirt and checkered shorts. The accessories are a beige hat, a denim bag, blue trainers, silver heels with rainbow stripes, and red boots.

Like with DC-826, this doll has a black vest and shorts set. They also come with a blue hoodie, a yellow tiger t-shirt, a silver jumper, paint-splattered dungarees, a striped skirt and blue jogging bottoms. The accessories that come with this doll are great; you get silver sunglasses, a green beanie, a rainbow-striped bag, silver boots, green shoes and pink flats.

Overall thoughts on Creatable World

The three dolls I have are incredible, and I like that you can have both male and female characters. You can also easily swap clothes across the range, making this series of dolls more unique. But after having the wigs on the dolls for a while, I found small bald spots at the back of the heads on 826 and 220. They aren’t noticeable from the front, but they are from the back if you pose the dolls at a certain angle.  To solve this problem, I found that either giving the doll hats or brushing that part of the hair with a doll brush helps. A hat covers the bald patch completely, while only a little is visible with brushing the hair. However, it’s hard to find it, so either of these options is worthwhile doing if you get this problem.

The articulation on the dolls is impressive as they have movement at the head, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle. The joint at the ankle’s critical as the dolls come with a mixture of flat and heeled shoes. Having the joint means that the dolls can wear both types of shoes. The range of motions also means that the dolls can stand in a range of positions. They can also balance without needing a doll stand, which makes it easier for display purposes.

Overall, I love the three dolls I have, and I can’t wait to add more to my collection.

I have other special interests if you want to have a look and see if anything interests you.
