Student Finance Struggles

Please note that I am studying a distance learning course, so what I explain in this blog post is about my struggles with finance for distance learning rather than for a standard university. Student finance can be a difficult process to go through as while I’m excited to start my university course with the open college of arts, I’ve faced some problems with the finance side of the course. When we first applied for the course, the people we talked to said that the finance won’t take long. Upon starting the funding in July, I didn’t know that it will Read More

Using Gimp- black and white photos to colour

Gimp is a useful programme as it allows you to use it for multiple purposes. At the moment, I only use it to colour pictures that are black and white or to turn coloured images to black and white, which I will explain how to do. Using Gimp allows me to relax and expands my creativity. I often use it to change the colour of clothes or the background, but I also change all of the colours in a picture. For this tutorial, I will use an image of Jane Seymour I found on the internet. Instructions on how to Read More

Visiting Hampton Court Palace

Visiting Hampton Court Palace has already topped my favourite days so far in 2019. Upon arrival, it was easy to park in a field opposite the palace. You do need to pay to enter the palace, and pricing can be found on the official website for Hampton Court Palace, https://www.hrp.org.uk/hampton-court-palace/#gs.w3ckw2. I brought a guide book before beginning so that I can read it after my visit. After entering the palace, we explored Henry VIII’s kitchens, which is forty-five rooms that were used to feed the Court, which contained at least six thousand people. As such, Hampton Court Palace was built Read More

A-levels Reflection

After completing my A-levels, as well as the exams,  relief floods over me when I realise that I have come to an end and finished my time at sixth form. I do have some fond memories of the school I attended, but my A-level years felt stressful. I was under a lot of pressure to do what I felt was more than I could achieve. However, I will reflect on each of the three A-levels I decided to take when I joined in Year 12 as to whether I would recommend the course or not. Not all A-levels are the Read More

Autism and Open Days

Autism and Open days can be worrying as that autistic person has to go out of their comfort zone to go to a city and find themselves among many people their age, excited by the prospect of finally growing independent and leaving home. On the other hand, I didn’t find the number of people stressful when I went to visit a university for their open day. To begin that day, we had to travel to the city where the university is located. Luckily, it is a city that I know well due to my frequent visits there as I was Read More

Autism and Birthdays

Autism and birthdays can be a stressful mix for parents. However, it can also be stressful for children as they might not want surprises and keep to the routine as much as possible. As an adult with autism (it feels so strange saying that I am now an adult since I don’t feel like one), I will share with you the experience I had on my eighteenth birthday. My birthday is celebrated twice, once with my Mum and once with my Dad. I always spend my birthday with Mum, but I always celebrate with my Dad either the weekend before Read More

Birthday Celebrations in Cardiff

For the start of my birthday celebrations, we went into Cardiff to explore the filming locations used in Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures. I felt excited by the prospect of visiting these locations as I haven’t visited some of them yet. I have visited Cardiff before, but haven’t seen some of the places where the Sarah Jane Adventures was filmed like Clinton Road, so I was enthusiastic about going there. After staying at our hotel for a few hours, we headed towards the Bay to take some photographs. First, we visited the Millenium Centre and the Water Tower, which Read More

Special Interests: Creative Writing

Creative writing helps me cope with the stress of daily life. It is a break away from the real world that I need, it allows me to be more creative with what I do. Autism means that I can’t write as well when I am stressed or not feeling myself. Therefore, my creative writing during these times will be focusing on my fanfiction and what other people have created. My fanfiction links to my special interests as I resort to my interests during school or when I can’t think of my creative writing projects. What helps with my Creative Writing? Read More

Visiting Bradgate Park

After visiting Bradgate Park, I felt hopeful and excited. This visit made me feel freer than my visit to Sudeley Castle. Bradgate Park, located in Leicestershire, is surrounded by parkland. There is a mile between the two information centres, meaning that I walked at least two miles that day. Due to this, I had to take a break before I reached the visitor’s centre at both ends, but it was well worth it because I came away with a smile. Bradgate Park has a lot of open space and allows people to do what they want to do within reason. Read More

Visiting Sudeley Castle

After visiting Sudeley Castle, I have come away from my visit unhappy. Several reasons lead to me having this feeling as we were driving out of the car park. The first reason for my visit to Sudeley Castle becoming unsatisfactory was the food served at the café. They served sandwiches, but the bread was extremely thick, and I had salad in my egg mayonnaise sandwich. Due to the salad, it led me to pick it out of my sandwich; which took some time. If you plan to visit Sudeley Castle, I suggest that you take your own picnic so you Read More
